Crimson King Norway Maple
Acer platanoides ‘Crimson King’
Commonly called Norway maple, this tree has been widely planted in urban areas throughout much of the U.S. Its leaves have five sharply pointed lobes and resemble those of the sugar maple. In spring, small maroon-yellow flowers appear before the foliage then give way to purple samaras (helicopters). It is more compact and tends to grow slower than the species but will create a dense shade to your landscape. In fall, its foliage turns a reddish-bronze color.
